Have worn these on just about every major hike I've made since the purchase in Dec. Love 'em. Love the gunmetal color. Really love the fit (they look good!). Love the little detachable gaters at the bottom (though I put on real gaters when wearing my stabilicers to protect the pants, also long underwear). Love the little clippy belt. Just love these pants. They have withstood washing and not washing between hikes/climbs. Super comfortable. Have already paid for themselves, but I consider them my fave purchase so far from STC.

They are huge, and the belt loops are positioned so that if you try to cinch in the waist, the belt cuts you in the stomach and dosen't pull in the top of the pants. The little zip-off gaiters complete with shoelace hook make the pants perfect for XC skiing (when worn with long underwear - the pants are not warm enough for temps much below 30 F on their own.) I have never gotten wet socks when using these pants, even when postholing. They are waaay too long for someone who is 5'3". If not for the huge sizing, they would be perfect. I kept them even though they are large because a smaller size wasn't available, and have worn them at least once a week for the past three months. If they fit better, they would be good for hiking as well. As it is, they will probably fall off me if I wear them without long underwear, and the too-long length will be more of a problem without skis on.

These pants are what you would expect for Mountain Hardwear. They are great and if they had more I would order them!

The make and material seemed very good. These would be great for winter outdoor activities. But, I normally wear a 4-6 and ordered the medium but they were way too big. I would have needed and X-small, unfortunately they did not have this size and I had to send them back.

I wear a 6 in the MH Petra shorts & find the Navigation pants Med (6/8) a bit roomy; I'd most likely wear these w/ long underwear but at this point am not sure if I'm gonna exchange for S. Softshells differ in thickness- these are on the thin side (not nearly as thin as Patagonia Simple Guide Pants, much thinner than Arcteryx Gamma MX). I couldn't find the "invisible zipper tab" that another reviewer mentioned... there are definitely long vents on the outer thigh thus meant for high aerobic activities. I mostly rock/ice climb & since these are not waterproof, I'm not sure if they meet my needs. The biggest drawback is how much these weigh: 20 oz (the thicker ArcteryxGammaMX is 13 oz). Overall, quality product. Really well made!!

Bought this for my wife, who is very petite and has a hard time finding pants that fit well. They are snug everywhere but where it's needed in the knees, so perfect for camping and hiking our local mountains. They look fantastic. The built-in gaiters are really nice, high quality and removable. Great.

i am on the short side (5' 2") but these pants are not too long for me, though there is some extra room in the length. they stretch just right & look and feel great.

I really enjoy wearing these pants -- the detailing is great, with lots of pockets, sturdy double snaps at the waist, adjustable belt, and built-in gaitors, wonderful for adventuring off-path and keeping out snow, sticky weeds, ticks, etc. The only odd thing is a thigh pocket, where the "invisible" zipper tab ends up close to your inner thigh when closed, rather than your outer thigh, as you might expect. Made me wonder if it were a mistake, and therefore a "second"? It's not a show-stopper, though, and I recommend them highly, and would have given 5 stars except for that curious zipper tab.
