Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Jacket - Fleece Lining (For Women)

My first use for this jacket was hiking 12 miles+ in the mountains in 50 degree weather and moderately high wind and the jacket performed very well. Lightweight, wind resistant and breathable.

I liked the looks of the jacket, but it fit too narrow. So it was returned

I really wanted to like this, especially with all the positive reviews. I was looking for an all-rounder jacket that would be waterproof for light hiking and canoeing but that I could also wear in the city on weekends. Unfortunately, the fit is all wrong for me. I am 5'2", 112lbs, size 2 and I bought the XS. It's extremely tight at the hips and that is with very little underneath. Because it "sticks" at the hips, it forces the rest of the excess fabric up and the collar cuts into the bottom of my chin. Disappointing. I'll be sending it back and trying for something else. Love STP though and can't say enough about their prices and selection. This will be my first return.

I am outside most days for a good amount of time and need functional, warm and durable clothing to both protect me from the elements, layer well with complimentary pieces without adding bulk and still look good!

I just received this jacket a few days ago and put it to the test yesterday. I climbed one of Colorado's 14ers with just a base layer underneath this. When the winds came blowing down into the valleys and at the peak, nothing cut through the jacket. I stayed plenty warm hiking. I found the jacket to be very durable, hardy, and stayed true to the description. I know MH tends to run a little small, so I ordered this in a size SM and there is plenty of room for me to add a thicker base layer or a fleece vest underneath. A lot of other reviews state the sleeves a bit long. I have rather wide shoulders for a girl and found the length to be right where I like my jackets. The sleeve came just past the first knuckle on my thumb. With bending arms, the sleeves still cover my wrists. As an avid rock climber, I can't wait to try this jacket out on the faces as it will keep my arms covered while ascending!! For the price, you can't beat the quality. I would definitely recommend this to others.

So I love the Mountain Hardwear stuff....however this jacket is made from fabric not so much softshell as it is a little ruffer. It is not lined so is not as cozy as I would like. I also thought that it was made poorly and the zipper sticky. The color is a spice cinnamon brown and the other one I bought is a pretty dark magenta. I will keep them both as they are lite and can use them everyday like a sweater at work. Cheers!!!

The sleeves were a little long, but that is usually the case for me due to my shape. This is their version of Schoeller, the Swiss fabric that started the rage for softshells. It is a bit heavier than true Schoeller, but for aerobic activities like back country skiing, nothing beats this jacket or a Schoeller equivalent because they breathe so well and don't leave you soaking wet like Goretex or Windblock. This jacket and other Schoeller jackets are reasonably windproof, but not like a shell. Combining something like this with a lightweight shell you can take off gives you excellent weather protection and the ability to be entirely windproof if the winds get too strong, but still able to be very aerobically active and stay fairly dry since sweat evaporates much quicker with this jacket than with a windproof jacket of any kind.

Great all around soft-shell jacket of that typical super Mountain Hardware quality. Perfect for running, hiking, etc in colder weather, and it's also my go-to jacket that I grab when I'm heading out the door for everyday use. The sleeves are on the longer side -- which is perfect for my broad shoulders and long arms, but for those of you who are more petite, they may be a little too long.

I originally bought this jacket for backpacking, but I'm wearing it everywhere now since so comfortable and light besides functional.
