5.0 out of 5 stars. Killer Rain/snow pants

These strike a great balance between lightweight rain pants and durable alpine pants. The level of build quality is as good as any other brand, they breathe better than gore tex paclite at the same weight. The full length zips are great. The velcro is solid enough to hold the waist while venting from the top. The extra zip might come in handy, but could do without. I would prefer a draw cord to pull in the snow. I would recommend these pants for hiking in the rain and snowsports.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Waterproof confirmed yes they are waterproof

Used while bike commuting. Overall a nice fit, My size is short and fit was spot on at or under 30, if it was too long 31 I was returning and short is hard to find so I was very happy with the length, my size XXL has a baggy look below the hips but works great when sitting on bike. Used in a heavy rain for 30 minutes with high winds cold temp. After the ride hung everything to dry out and these pant did not leave a drop of water on the floor all of the water was left outside because the pants did not hold any wetness note my shoes where dryer because the rain did not run straight down into my shoes my socks where only damp. Any other pants and my shoes would of been soaked. I have used Golf rain pants that look almost the same but does not have the full sealed zipper or inside lining. Only issue was with the belt or half belt as the pant will ride down when going from standing to sitting and then return to standing. I will correct that with suspenders. Overall love the waterproof. only need a option to tighten up the belt. Using as top layer with micro fleece lined padded bike pants and loved it as a soft shell in the winter freeze below 32f the wind proof is a most on any cold day so these will be added to my backpack for trail hike. Weight is light but not microlight as I also carry Sierra Design pants and can now replace those with the Seraction.Dry.Q.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Not as rugged as I would've hoped

After a month of wearing these in the forests of coastal Oregon, these pants have holes and leak in water. Also, after a couple of weeks, the zipper broke.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Great snow pant

Bought these for XC ski excursions and they work great. The full side vent is crucial for those uphill slogs and the ankle zip helps with getting the boots on and off. Note that the ankle zip just expands the leg opening; it does not fully unzip the pant. Fabric is durable and repels moisture well, which is a must when out in southern snow. My one complaint is that the thigh area is a bit bulky, especially when worn with gaiters around the lower leg, but hey--it ain't a fashion show.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. not as good as wished

maybe quality is good, but there is only one small pocked on the right knee, even iphone4 can not be put in.
belt is not an entire one and can't take any accessories.
so it's not very convenient for out sports.

I bought the Rb Nexus Polartec Neoshell pants, the Rab Latok Event pants, and the Mountain Hardware Serration Dry pants with the intent to select one of the three and send the other two back. I picked the Rab Nexus pants. I took it on faith and research that all three were quality pants from quality manufacturers that would all serve to breathe well and keep me dry. My online research suggested that the PolarTec technology breathed the best but the Event and Q Elite would be good too - all three better than Goretex Pro. I wanted to see, feel and try on these three pants to see which was best. I wear a 33W & 32 L in regular pants. All three in M fit my waist well. Both Rab's have several inches of elastic in the back which although I don't care for the look of elastic, on a practical basis they would adapt well with wearing them with either nothing underneath or with a base layer or even over shorts. The Mountain Hardware pants probably looked the best - they had a nice built-in waist adjustment with velcro and a little elastic. The MH's in long fit me perfect. Both Rab's fit my leg length well. Both Rabs seemed to have slightly wider legs than the MH's which I liked even though my legs aren't overly large. All three had great maneuverability. The MH and the Nexus had full length side zippers, the Latoks only partial length. The Nexus's had the best zipper sealing. The Nexus's had the best fabric feel (least plasticy and least noisy). My order of preference: Nexus, MH, Latok. All three were comfortable. None have regular pockets, the MH's had a small odd shaped pocket right on the front of the thigh - a really awkward place to put anything. In the end, I picked the Nexus due to best feel, slightly better maneuverability, least noisy, better price than the MH. It was a close call between the MH's and the Nexus's, I would have been very happy with any of the three though.

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
