Yes, they are noisy, but so were the other Gore-Tex pants that I tried on (which were more expensive and heavier). I like these because they are thin and light enough to pack away in a daypack, and they fit easily over another pair of pants (Lowe Alpine Ascent) assuming you have a dry place to put them on. No, I would not want to try and get these on over hiking boots in the middle of a rainstorm with no cover.

Like several others stated, these pants are very oddly designed in the thigh area and are noisy whenever you move. I had to send them back. Very disappointing since they were intended to be a Christmas gift.

I can see where other reviewers were happy with the fit, so maybe I got a strange pair! I'm 5'9", weight 145 and am well-proportioned. I don't usually have problems with fit. I ordered another brand in the same size and they fit properly. I was very disappointed as I wanted the higher quality Mountain Hardware pants.
