I live in an extreme winter climate. This jacket does it all for me. Even high energy activities like skate skiing can require more than a light jacket when the temps are between below zero and the twenties. This jacket accommodates it all. I'm 5'4" and 115 pounds and this jacket in small is perfectly sized for me. The windstopper along with pit zips allows me to adjust my comfort level depending on the conditions. I also wear this around our resort town and feel comfortably stylish. I have the red color, and if it came in another color besides green or black, I'd buy it in a flash. By the way, the pit zips were a bit stiff at first, but after wearing it a few times, they softened up and I didn't notice them any more. The pit zips are essential for me since I wear this during high output activities.

This is a snug fitting jacket. You will not be putting on a thick layer underneath. The sleeves are a little long, but not terribly so. It seems that longer sleeve is the norm now. Nice movement. I am wearing in cooler weather but have a hard time believing it will keep me warm on a true winter day (but maybe I will be surprised). It is perfect for me- I have a big warm jacket but wanted a jacket that was warm but not bulky that I can wear for most of the time (it really does not get too cold here).

I really like this jacket - the cut is fabulous, and I like the fabric. I got the black, and actually kind of like the asymmetric white stitching that one other reviewer disliked. But, others seemed happy with the pit vents, and I'm sure not. While the rest of the jacket fits great, the zippers in the pit vents bow in and press right into my arm pits. I can't say that it's a pleasant feeling. Might just be me, though - I don't own anything else with pit vents, partly because the couple items I have tried on have bugged me in the same way. Also, I did wish that it had a little more insulation; it seems a little too warm to be a lightweight jacket, and not warm enough for when it's really cold.

I bought this coat because it was mid-weight and wind/water resistant and had a hood. Mountain Hardware gear is always good, so that was also a plus.

However, when it arrived I really didn't like the fabric at all. It had a rough feel that I can only describe as retro 1970's. I got a black jacket and it has this odd asymmetric white stitching scrolled across the chest. At first I thought it was a defect, but I think it's intentional. I returned the jacket because I really didn't like the look. Definitely not what I had expected.
