I really like these shorts- they're sturdy and notably comfortable. I was looking for an alternative to Patagonia's Stand Up shorts. I needed a different pocket configuration but I didn't want cargo shorts with big thigh pockets. Like most things, there's always a design tradeoff. As substantial as these shorts are, they weigh a lot. I have to cinch my belt fairly tight to keep them from drifting southward. Still, they've become my new favorites...

Review is likely not fair but it is my review. Fabric is really thick, like five layers of burlap and ran a bit small in the waist.

They seem to run a size small but are super confortable.

Bought one pair for my husband and one for my son. Both like their shorts on the long side so the choice of inseam was a good thing. Nice to have a pair of rugged shorts for walks in the woods, etc. Fit was good, color choice as well. Very satisfied.

The weave on this fabric seemed more open, burlap-like, than the tight canvas I expected. Also the pockets were all over the place, in contrast to the rather simple lines portrayed in the photograph. I ended up sending the shorts back.

I own a pair of the long version of these pants as well. They are almost indestructible. My only complaint about the long pants is that the pocket material is kind of flimsy, and they have a hole in them now. I hope these don't have the same problem. Even if they do, these will last longer than any other pants I've owned scooting and scraping over the rough rock at Joshua Tree.

These were not bad enough to send back, but not as good as I'd hoped. I got the longest ones but they feel short. Also the waist is quite tight. The fabric is thick which makes them feel really stiff at the moment, but hopefully they'll soften up and stretch out a bit
