Good tent for 3 seaons. Lightweight. Excellent fly except for the vents. Heavy rain and wind can penetrate the vents and leak through the netting into the tent. A tarp over the netting solves this problem. I bought two - one for me and one for my parents. Vestibules are small and not useful for gear, but the double doors are handy. Tent appears to be holding up well after several uses and high winds on the beach. Netting design of windows is not conducive to keeping blowing sand out of the tent, but it is not a 4 season tent.

So I received the tent and it was easy to set up even without reading the instructions. I noticed it has a seam on the floor and sent a question to STP stating that their description of a "bathtub" floor meant no seams. No response yet. I called MountainSmith and asked about a foot print and ordered the Morrison 2 person footprint from Amazon. I used the tent, fly, and footprint on a hiking outing and it was perfect for my needs - a one person tent for someone who carries a lot of gear. Be aware that the weight on my digital scale was 5 pounds 3 ounces with pegs and all, 6 ounces more than MountainSmith literature. It is a very nice tent and if the floor seam is sealed and meets the "bathtub" definition, I would like STP to let me know that or what my options are.

Tent is small as advertised - I was able to fit it inside my carry-on luggage as we were flying to a camp site across the country. My 6' tall boyfriend also felt he had plenty of room to lie down inside.

I plan on taking this tent on a 6 day tramp on Isle Royale in just a couple of weeks. But for now I can say that it meets my expectations for being a light, compact tent that is easy to set up. It didn't come with a footprint and I couldn't find one online anywhere to purchase so I'm going to use the footprint from by other tent and somehow make it work.

This tent was larger than I anticipated. It was also a little heavier than I anticipated, but it worked well for my first backpacking trip. Super easy to set up and plenty of room for two plus some gear. I sprayed it down with a can waterproofing just to be safe, but the design of the tent leads me to believe I'd never have to worry about rain getting in. My only concern is that with the fly on there is no way to see outside the tent. Also, the floor seemed really thin and flimsy so I would suggest a foot to be sure nothing broke through. Otherwise a solid tent at a great price!

  • Question “The tent I received has a seam on the floor where it meets the start of the wall. I thought a "bathtub" by your definition means no seams on the floor?”
Asked on 5/14/2013 9:30:41 PM by Johnny the Hiker 2 from New Mexico
    • Answer no, bathtub designs means the floor goes up on all 4 sides - like a tub - majority of tents have seams on the floor. As long as they are taped, it's all good

  • Question “Is this tent rectangular, or trapezoidal (narrower at foot or head end, as it appears from pic)? If narrower on one end, what are the dimensions at each end? STP-- I would apreciate a footprint plan including vestibule spaces provided on each tent as a policy, since many are irregular (trapezoidal, diamond/ polygonal, etc), and I do not like to guess-- I often visit other competing sites to get this information when I want to buy a tent here.”
Asked on 6/25/2012 12:00:00 AM by Hiker Chic from Cambridge, MA
    • Answer The Mountainsmith Celestial Tent- 2Person has rectangular footprint||I will pass your request along to the appropriate people, but cannot make any promises. Thanks for asking and have a good day.

  • Question “I don't see this on Mountainsmith's website, but it looks nearly identical to the Morrison 2....could it be the same thing in a different color?”
Asked on 3/22/2012 12:00:00 AM by hikerboy from Oregon
    • Answer The Celestial is a closeout so Mountainsmith does not make it any more. It is possible that the Morrison 2 is a newer version of the Celestial.
