Mountainsmith Dog Pack - Medium

This pack completely served its purpose. I purchased a medium for my 70lb. retriever mix. He is able to carry his own rations for a multi-day trip. It worked fantastically. The mesh pocket on top holds a leash, ball, and treats. The handle on the back came in very useful when we had to lift the dog up a small ridge (though I'm not sure how he felt about it). The construction seems pretty strong, and the lifetime warranty makes it worth it. I would certainly buy again.

This little pack is well made and sturdy. It has a good assortment of pockets. It is a bit small for our small, thin golden retriever but manages to fit her. The con for us is that the overall volume is small; she won't be able to carry much in it. Two water bottles, a collapsible dish or two, a small amount of dogfood. I've seen other packs for dogs her size that are roomier.

Well constructed but would like to see better padding at strap contacts and wider chest pad.

This pack is well made to balance the load and easy to put on and take off. This is the best pack I've ever had for my dog. The pockets are very roomy, great for carrying more stuff. The more my dog can carry the less I have to.

I have not been able to test the product hiking as of yet. The construction seems solid. It is very easy to place on dog. The product fits my 90 lb. dog well (Med size). The only problem I see which might develop is the straps under the dog may pull out of the sleeve and drag on the trail.

I bought this for my 8 month old, 70 lb German Shepherd and it rides very well on her. The meduim size fits her well now and should be the right size for when she is done growing. Some packs ride too high, but this style brings the load lower providing better balance for the load and for the dog. She looks great wearing it and when she sees me grab it, she knows we're going hiking! The stitching at one of the the belly strap/bag attachment points failed on first one I received, [...]. That kind of defect could occur on any piece of gear. I've owned several packs for my dogs over the years, and so far this is the best design.

I love the Mountainsmith dog packs! We ordered this one and a different brand at the same time, and the Mountainsmith clearly outshines the other brand. It is situated well forward, placing the weight over the dog's shoulders rather than their back. It is well balanced, staying put on the skinny shoulders of my tall, lean Husky even with very little load inside. Lots of room in the pack for dog food, travel bowls, water, and doggy pick-up bags. I love the compression straps - if you don't have the bags full, you can tighten them down to keep the contents in place. This makes it easier for your dog to squeeze around rocks and bushes, and keeps everything from bouncing around and making the dog uncomfortable. The pack looks brand new even after being through all kinds of briars and scrub brush. We replaced the flimsy fleece strap covers with our own, and have had no problems with the straps rubbing behind the dog's elbows. We are very happy with this pack!

Although a little heavy for mid-summer use, this is built solid enough not to be torn off by oblivious dogs like mine going through brush. well balanced. Will work well for winter camping this year.

MY 70LB GERMAN SHORTHAIR NEEDED TO CARRY HIS OWN SUPPLIES WHILE OUT IN THE WOODS- I TRIED MANY OTHER PACKS, BUT WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE CONSTRUCTION, FIT, AND ESPECIALLY THE BELLY/CHEST STRAPS, WHICH WOULD CHAFE HIM. I ORDERED THIS PACK, AND VOILA, IT FIT HIM TO A "T", WITH THE ADDED BONUS OF FLEECE ON THE STRAPS. HE IS NOW ABLE TO CARRY HIS OWN XTRA WATER AND TREATS!!!
