Mountainsmith Dog Pack - Medium

This is a really well made dog pack and fits my young Alaskan Malamute very well. I wanted to buy one that had a chest strap to prevent the pack from sliding backwards on her back, so I could make sure the weight she's carrying is more towards the front of her body, over her shoulders and front legs, rather than putting pressure on her back. The only down side about this pack is that the back buckle sometimes comes undone as she walks/runs, and after a long walk I typically have to re-adjust the front chest strap as well to keep the pack from sliding backwards on her back too far. But otherwise it's a great pack--made of durable canvas, with very nice sized pockets on both sides as well as an external pocket for doggie bags.

Good product for the cost. Buckles could use improvement-they pop open easy or simply when the dog bumps something.

Bear loves her new pack. The day she got it, she curled up and slept in it. We'll be using it for long-term backpacking trips starting this spring.

We just got it, our plan is to use it when we go hiking or backpacking so Murphy our husky/samoyed mix can come along with us. We've started using it on walks so 1.) he feels like he has a purpose 2.) get him used to it. A little more adjustment and Murphy will be set to go on all types of adventures. The only thing I had to do research on for this pack was the size, he's probably 60-75 pounds, pretty fit and he wears a medium.

Very stable and weight is well distributed. 80 pound dog carried food for 4 days with no problem. Only Con: chaff strip on straps does not stay in one place.

Used these on backpacking trips and canoeing in the Boundary Waters with our dogs. They hold a lot without being too heavy or burdensome. They fit well, stay on, and balance nicely. So far they've held up well over several trips, enduring water, rocks, mud, and rough brush.

I have had the pack on my dog three times since I bought it. It works really well and is handy to have. It balances on the dogs back well. There are only two problems. First, it does restrict my dogs movement a little. The packs seem to hang down to low. Second, the straps won't stay tight. They slip looser and looser as the dog moves.

The buckles pop open very easily. Otherwise the pack seems good and the price was very good.

Fits comfortably, doesn't restrict movement, good quality materials, doesn't move around even when the dog runs through brush. Holds more than enough for a day outside and would work for short backpacking trips as well!

The straps on this pack which run under the dog's torso are a fairly coarse nylon; a softer nylon tube encases these straps. However the encasing tubes are loose so they tend to slide and even fall off when putting on or removing the pack. I have a very active dog who will run even with the pack on. Bottom line: the protective tubes do not do the job and the dog suffers serious chaffing which becomes open sores that take a couple of weeks to heel. Because of this, I had to retire the pack after a couple of uses. Also, my dog has the build of a pointer with a deep chest and narrow waist. Even though I purchased the recommended size pack for his chest circumferance, the rear strap did not cinch tightly enough to achieve a correct fit caused the pack to slip when he walked or ran. I do not recommend this pack except for slow moving dogs with the proportions of a lab.
