Mountainsmith Dog Pack - Small

My dog wears this on runs, to tire her out a little extra. She doesn't even seem to notice it. Top notch product.

The pack itself was great- sturdy, good material. The plastic buckles however didn't stay closed and within the first five minutes I was carrying the pack. There was no way to fix it. I returned it for another brand.

This pack fits well and looks great on my 50ish lb boxer/lab. It holds enough food for a couple of days and a chewie or two. I haven't been able to use it yet, though, because the female end of the front buckle releases way too easily. I can understand how this could be a safety issue, say if they want it to be able to break away in case of a snag, but it's just too weak. It broke away in the course of average running and jumping down the trail. This problem seems common enough that I plan on skipping an exchange attempt with STP and contacting Mountain Smith to see if I can get a replacement buckle because I quite like the size and style. I really want it to work.

the product is fine, but your shipping choices are terrible and as far as I am concerned a future deal breaker. I paid 20 bucks to ship this article to Canada, but when Nationally Known shipper showed up they wanted COD for another 19 dollars to cover a cross border brokerage fee.In all my life I have never had a brokerage fee. I wound up paying more for shipping than I did for the article!

Overall the pack seems well made except for the buckles. I have returned two packs with defective buckles that won't stay buckled and the third replacement has the same problem. Customer service has been very helpful about trying to find one that works right but this time I'm just going to replace the buckle myself. My dog is 60 pounds but has a narrow chest and a 27" girth. The girth straps cinch most of the way up (could go a couple of inches smaller.) It would be nice if the pockets were slightly longer front to back and slightly shorter up and down.

This pack (size small) fits my 45 pound dog really well. He got used to it quickly and it fulfilled his need to "work"! (He's a heeler/pointer mix.)

I haven't had a chance to take more than a short hike, but so far am very impressed with the fit and comfort for the dogs. After reviewing several packs, I feel I made the right choice. The pack has a good variety of the two large pockets and some interior/exterior pockets along with the bungie cord on top. These do run pretty generous. I ordered a medium for my 60lb female golden. However, I can see ordering the next size up for our male, who is approaching 70 lbs.

This pack looks bulkier in the photo than it is. I have a long lean dog and the small fit his narrow chest well. The padded chest strap is a bonus for active dogs who like to run like the wind. We will be testing it this weekend!

I use this backpack on my 34 lb. beagle mix. It's great for our walks around the neighborhood and some easy trails. I store her water and waste bags. It's sometimes difficult to get the weight balanced and I find myself adjusting the pack while we're walking. It does seem a little large for her, but I don't notice any discomfort on her part. We get lots of strange looks and (usually) compliments on it while we're out. We still need to test it on more rugged terrain, but overall I'd say this is a very good product.
