This is a great dog pack and I would definitely recommend it. I was looking at the Kelty and this seems to be larger so I can hold more stuff. My 45-50lbs lab loves this and and the small size fits her perfectly. The cons: after using this for a good 25 miles or more the front stitching where the buckle meets the pack started to come undone. [...]

The cinch straps on the right side of the pack were not sewed down correctly, so the plastic clasps fell off somewhere. I just cut off the straps, as we don't need 'em and they just get in the way... Still a decent value.

This pack is roomy, stylish, and functional. It is well made and far more versatile than your average dog pack. I love all the pockets of varying sizes and functions.

This is the best backpack for dogs I've ever used. It's easy to adjust and comfortable for the dogs.

I use this on my 55lbs lab and I wasn't sure if the small was going to fit or not, and it fits perfectly with plenty of room to tighten or loosen. It's really durable, my dog sometimes forgets it's on and cuts corners short and this dog pack holds up over and over. the large YKK zippers are great. The 3 best things about this are and in this order: 1. fits very well and comfortable for the dog. 2. very durable and high quality materials used for construction. 3. large storage capacity. at first glance it may not look like it can hold much but I put in two 34oz. water bottles (one/side) and I have room to spare. I can't not find a negative with this and I'm hyper critical. Buy this dog pack, you and your dog(s) will love it! We get compliments and questions almost every time we use it.

We bought this pack for our nigerian dwarf goats for Co. Fair. It fits great (goats weigh 37 pds). One note about the measurements (18x8x3.5), the 18 is the length of the whole pack, each side measure 9 inches. Runs bigger than you would think a small size would be (fits our 70pd lab too but he could carry a lot more wt then it could hold). Lots of adjustable straps!

Sizing is critical and proper fit may determine success or failure of the animal adjusting to wearing a pack. This one is true to stated measurements and a good fit for this S. A. in training. Black is not a good color for prolonged outdoor use due to heating but a couple of small frozen jell packs help.

While sized correctly, small for a terior sized dog, the pockets are rather deep, making me think a spaniel would be dragging. We have another brand ( Olie) for another dog, and the pockets ride much higher, the Mountainsmith has larger pockets. Needs to be packed in a balanced fashion, using 2 small water bottles to split weight.

This pack is tough and well made. The straps are easy to adjust both on and off the dog. My 10 month old 44 pound Black lab/mystery mix fits into the small pack just right with room to grow. She is slim and leggy with a long body. She carried it empty on a 4.5 mile hike for her first experience and the pack didn't shift at all. I realize that once I start adding cargo this could be different and that keeping the weight balanced could be a challenge. She seemed comfortable in it and didn't have any hot spots or chaffing where the straps were. The polyester sleeves that slide over each buckle help, I'm sure. I bought this pack so the dog could carry her own water on our day hikes, and it looks as though I got the right pack for her shape. Definitely use the girth measurements to decide which size to buy, not the dog body weight. Like humans, dogs can be very different measurements, and still weigh the same!
