It took him a bit to get comfortable with it, but now he doesn't even notice it. I ordered a small for my 55lb shepherd mix and it fits well. I would like a bit more padding on the front strap, but overall I'm very happy with the product.

I was very surprised at the quality of this bag, it is really well made. It's adjustable and easy to put on and take off. There's plenty of room for food, bowl , little blanket, water, and a toy. Louis loves wearing it too, I think it makes him feel like he's got an important mission.

I read the reviews about it running large, so ordered a small for my lab-mix (60lbs). It fit her very well, never shifted after being positioned, whether empty or full, but was not tight. Interesting change in this female lab mix who is hyperactive. She calms down, keeps right beside me without any commands, and seems to enjoy having a purpose. Bought this because I saw Cesar Millan say on his program that packpacks help calm them, and he is completely right. We use it even on short walks. No chafing, which I was concerned about. To get her used to it, I let her wear it around the house and yard for a few hours. After that, no problem. Easy to put on and take off.

Read the other reviews and pay attention to sizing. Go smaller. I ordered a small for my 50# plus terrier mix and it fits perfectly.

Good quality pack. The buckles that came on mine held up to some lunges from a 40-lb pup, though other reviewers seem to have not been so lucky. The D-ring or whatever it was that attaches the leash to the pack DID snap on the first outing though, and while a little inconvenient, it was easily replaced with a stronger attachment. Straps didn't seem to irritate underbelly or anything on our pooch after our initial 5-mile hike, and I'm definitely satisfied with the pack overall. Oh yeah, as others have sad, this pack runs huge.

Bought this for our 40-some lb dog having read it runs very large, and this size does indeed fit him well. Got it with the goal of backpacking, but we have only tried it on a 5-mile day hike so far. While other reviewers have replaced weak buckles, the pack we got has buckles that hold up to some serious abuse. I guess we got lucky or some changes have recently been made? In any case, the D-ring (or whatever shape it was) that you clip the leash on to snapped off during one excited leap early in the hike. In retrospect, it was pretty flimsy and we should have seen that coming. You may want to reinforce or replace that clip if your dog gets excited and lunges. Pack seems sturdy and is roomy enough for a couple day's food and water. Contents only got somewhat damp on the very bottom from an impromptu romp in a creek.

Great quality and huge size range due to long cinch straps. However, beware of sizing. I have a 60lb apbt.length 19. She wears a large in all clothing brands. I got this pack long before I got her and assumed I would get a smaller dog so I bought a small. It fits her and straps drag on the ground! The packs themselves are small..just large enough to fit a large kong in one and a retractable leash In the other, but the straps are huge..i need to cut them off so she doesn't trip on them. I doubt they could be made small enough for a med or small dog as they're almost on the smallest setting now. So size down....way down!

I own three of these packs currently. Small, medium and large to outfit my dog pack. My little mountain goat-like mutt rocks the small and my GSDs wear the bigger packs. They love them and I love not carrying all their stuff when we are backpacking. The fit is good for all the dogs. They even wear them on walks around the neighborhood. In a strange way, I think they feel empowered and like they have purpose with a pack on. Probably the best feature of these packs - the sturdy handle on the back - being able to grab this saved my dogs life while crossing a stream.

I was hoping to get one with good buckles, but the buckle across the chest was faulty. I was able to correct for this defect by tying the belt to the female buckle end. Now to put the pack on the dog, we just slip it over our 55 pound labradoodle's head and buckle the two belly straps. Have traveled about 3 miles with it fully loaded. Very happy.

We have a 50lb boxer/australian shephard mix and based on the reviews, we decided to try the small size. It fits her perfectly! I purchased the pack for walks around the neighborhood. She tends to get very distracted when we walk but when I strap on her pack she focuses on the task and walks by my side. I can imagine the pack would be very durable for more adventurous hiking. This was a great purchase for our pooch!
