Purchased this pack so Bella the Boxer could carry her own weight on the trail. She is currently 40 lbs and this pack fits perfectly with room to grow. I actually tried the medium too and although its saddle-bag capacity was more of what I wanted, the straps were too long. Specifically the one in the rear where her body narrows, at its tightest I could still place my fist between the bag and her body. The bowls fold flat and food bowl has cinch strap to contain leftovers. These are great for traveling too. I agree with other reviewers that the bed pad is ridiculously small though. Also, the leash is excellent because it gives you a hands-free option. Either place the adjustable elastic around your wrist or secure the clasp around your own belt or pack.

I have a medium size dog who is 40lbs and about 22 inches tall and this size is perfect. Anything else would be too big. You can fit 3 water bottles easily in each side. Great buy and great price. [...]

I bought two of these packs for our two English Springer Spaniels. The small sized packs fit comfortably on both dogs, one of whom is 42lbs the other is 45lbs. I've take both dogs out for lengthy runs with the packs on and have had no issue with the packs shifting around or twisting off to one side and the dogs seem to be very comfortable wearing them. I have noticed that if the packs are weighted down and the dogs take off at a full run then abruptly come to a stop (as springers often do) the packs will sometimes slip over their head and completely off the dog. This may be partly because I don't cinch them down tight enough around their belly but I prefer to leave them a little loose for the dog's comfort. Altogether the dogs and I are very happy with the packs.

Unfortunately the website listed an impressive cu. in. capacity for these, but it was grossly incorrect compared to what the box said and what the size actually was once they arrived (we got them for our mid-size dog). Also the straps do not go around as much girth as a customer service on the website said they did--close, but not quite. Looks like a nice product, but the box says it is for dogs 20-40 lbs, and that needs to be on the website and it isn't. I have returned them. Hopefully they will fix the data on the website. I'd recommend them for someone with a small dog, hence the 4 stars.

This thing fit like a glove in the field. Very durable. The leash is nice,it is set up with a loop to secure the dog to a tree or whatnot - which is useful during the morning latrine call in the bush if you catch my drift! The bowls are nice and compact/light. The dog bed a little useless for us, it is much too small for our dog to sleep on. It is great to have her pulling some weight while not worrying about the pack ripping open on a low branch etc. like I have seen other packs do.

Our dog is above the weight range but very slender so the pack fits like a glove. We tested it by putting cans of beans in the pack and having her run around the house. Even with only one side of the pack filled it didn't slip very much at all. Plus she was enthusiastically smiling and happy to have it on. We will test it in the field to scout a ghost town and trout creek on the mountainous coast of CA tomorrow and see how durable it is. It will fit at least 3 days worth of dog food if not a weeks worth.

Pack was a bit small for the upper range of dog weight, but overall a very nice pack. Note that the pack is completely full if it carries all the items that are included, so you will have to leave some of the things out to add food and water.
