5.0 out of 5 stars. This version MUCH better than the "new" one......

Having made the mistake of ordering the latest version of this pack through another seller, I am grateful I found these on closeout. The new design of tis pack really blew it on the water bottle holders; Mountainsmith went to a very tight, non-adjustable elastic that only allows very thin bottles.....not the bigger Nalgene bottles.....to be used with the side pockets. This pre-2012 version has mesh holders with adjustable cords that let you use any size bottle you want. MUCH better. Same robust construction, zippers, etc.. If you've ever wanted a great lumbar pack (and if you buy one, you'll be hooked)....buy this before they're gone.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. A Classic

Get ‘me while they last. This classic hip Pack is on the endangered list following a recent redesign. Not that the new pack is of lower quality, however for those who have owned this model in the past, one would likely agree it would be difficult to find a more versatile day hike accessory. The pack is comfortable for hauling light loads, designed to accommodate original Nalgene bottles in the mesh side pockets, and the quality of construction makes the pack rugged - essentially bomb proof. Don’t hesitate. It’s an awesome pack.

Of course I love the Mountainsmith lumbar pack because I’ve been using one for almost 20 years. Old one got lost so ordered this replacement and love the heritage red blocking with classic yellow logo. Very comfortable and stylish! Mountainsmith for life!

Will be returning because description didn't meet expectations. Too big to be "fanny bag"
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. This bag is big!

This is one sturdy and large lumbar pack. More than enough room for a camera( wrapped in towel as there is no padding)
Binoculars and a bird book. The size of the pack and how it sits up high will definitely limit a forward carry. Dinged it one star because the red is too garish.

lightweight but loads of room and many pockets. It is just right for a day hike.
