Reviewed by dctravelgirl from Washington, DC on Saturday, January 12, 2013I just got my backpack in the mail. I like the opening at the top. I can get a lot of stuff in it. I'll be using this as my carryon for a trip next month. I just wish there were an outside pocket. There is one small zippered pocket hanging on the inside at the top. The backpack does not weigh a lot to begin with. There is a nice strap that goes around the waste. When you are not using it there is a Velcro thing where you can hide it. I love the red color!

I put my (small) briefcase with laptop PLUS my purse in it to go through airport security, since women are not allowed to have a regular carryon plus a briefcase and a purse. Silly, but those are the rules. This is then stashed under the seat, and everything is accessible. My only beef is that of others, that it could use a couple of small pockets, but that is it. I have had a lot of women compliment me on it in airports and ask me what it is, as many of us are in the same boat.

Reviewed by Capt. Obvious from VA Mtns on Thursday, November 01, 2012This bag is going to be a real beater. High denier (500?) nylon, beefy zipper. Big single compartment with extremely well thought out compression/weight distribution straps and suspension. Removable sheet of ¼" (1/2"?) foam. This is the kind of simple durable gear I like. Not hyperlight, but no wasted weight either. Not designed by a committee ;-) It is light and unobtrusive when not full, but comfortable when I over pack. Even when full it stays fairly low profile on my back and rides low so it doesn't catch on everything I duck under. The top has some metal sliders for attaching 1" webbing. I plan to use those sliders to rig some webbing with buckles to carry a sleeping bag on top and clip a nylon pocket/pouch thingy on the back for some light weekend over-nighters. Maybe some fair weather early winter trips, spike out during hunting season. A good synthetic 20Deg. bag is about 15 litres, this bag is about 30 litres. So with the bag on top its like filling 50 litre pack, we shall see how comfy that is. A little big for a summertime MTB day pack, but ive been using it for grocery shopping when I take my bike without a rack. Easily swallows a 15.5" laptop in a padded case. It also appears to have attachments for piggybacking it on another pack. I really hope this pack is not discontinued.

Answer I would just put it inside or get a belt holder.||I primarily will use this in winter time so am going to have a bottle in an insulated case anyway.

Answer The Mountainsmith Tyrol is not designed to be hydration compatible, however it does have tons of space in the removable sheet frame pocket and with some modifying you could make it compatible. Hope this helps.
