I bought this for a gift and have not viewed it. I was concerned that it is for older computer programs so I had to think carefully and give it to someone who is not as technologically up to date. I think it is a nice set to learn about Alaska either for a visit or just for fun.

I only bought it because it was [$]. The maps it has are not detailed at all. It might point out BLM/State campsites, but any website can do that too. It's not GPS compatible, but even if I printed the maps (which I haven't tried) I wouldn't trust the maps to help get me out of the wilderness if I got lost. The topo lines don't seem that detailed. Just enough to let you know where a mountain is, but not orientate yourself with smaller land features.

Make sure you check your operating system before purchase!! We have Windows Vista and can only use the topo maps. Yes, I should have checked, but this must be the reason it is so cheap to buy...it won't work on the newer systems.
