I bought these to run in the Michigan winter temps below 20 degrees and cold winds. I couldn't have been happier with the product. I think these pants are great for running. They are not ideal weight, but as another reviewer mentioned, the most lightweight gear rarely imparts the warmth and wind blocking needed for cold temperature workouts. I would not describe these pants as heavy, however. I can run without any restriction of movement, and I really appreciate the "soft shell-like" material, as it imparts significant windblocking and water resistance but is still breathable. I've used them running in single digit temps to mid-30's. Probably a little warm for the 30's, but near ideal for 20's and below. Before buying, read some reviews about bagginess at the pocket level. This is accurate (particularly when pocket zips open), but I don't really feel it effects performance that much. If you care a lot about looks, try these on before buying. Overall, solid cold weather activity pant.

I bought these to run in the Michigan winter temps below 20 degrees and cold winds. I couldn't have been happier with the product. They are thicker/heavier than anything else I run in, but the lighter weight clothes don't block the wind or insulate like these do. You won't run your fastest race wearing these, but you'll be out on the street training when your less courageous friends are bored to tears pounding out the miles on their treadmill. Me, I choose to put away the stop watch and brave the ice and snow in my NBx gear.

bulky material - i bought these for my husband because i thought they were running pants, but there's no way anyone could run in these they are so thick. almost like a soft shell pair of pants that you would wear for skiing, but i think they are still too thick they would restrict movement.
