Reviewed by ty from west chester pa on Wednesday, November 27, 2013this product is yet another good one . half the waterproofers out their do a good job or average at best, but they damage your finer quality leather products in the prosses. this is a highly effective water proofer and wont damage your product,if you follow the instructions. my one and only problem with it is it goes fast, the amount dosent proof as many items as you would think. cant wait to try the cleaning gel.

Sorry about the delayed answer but here it goes. If you are talking about leather dress shoes or shoes with no cloth/gortex lining I am not sure and would check with the manufactures websites of Nikwax or the brand of shoes you wish to treat.
In the past I used the cleaning gel on a 15 year old pair of all leather Montrail Morain II boots and they smelled great after they dried. Nikwax has always been what I used to waterproof my Montrails and other boots and I have never had wet feet while on backcountry trips.
I also used the cleaning gel on a pair of tall Zamberlan hiking/hunting boots that are made up of mostly leather and a little gortex cloth at the top. The cleaning gel worked perfectly! I applied the fabric leather proof on the whole boot and even inside the top of the boot for good measure just in case I stepped into water that was actually deeper than the 12" height of the boot and guess what.....I did. The whole boot repelled the water and the inside upper lip repelled the water into my socks. The products worked perfectly just as they have every time I used them (for 20+ years). I have never waterproofed the inside of my boots for fear of the chemical ingredients either causing my skin to react adversely or interfering with the gortex breathing as it is designed. I hope this has helped answer you question thoroughly.
Roll Tide Roll,
No, you should use Nikwax Nubuck and Suede Spray-On Waterproofing #1831N.
