I purchased a Red Ledge Rain Jacket from Sierra Trading Post a few years back. Whne new, I marveled at how it beaded up rain and slid off the jacket. After a a couple of years of wear the rain simply soaked into the jacket. So I got both the Nikwax Tech Wash and the Nikwax Wash-In TX Direct Waterproofing thinking I could once again get water to bead up and slide off. The wash did a very nice job of cleaning the jacket. And I followed directions carefully, even calling Nikwax to review and clarify treatment processes. The TX Direct Waterproofing did not re-waterproof my garment and I can only think that I will have to try some other product to restore waterproofing. I had high hopes, but was disapointed with the Waterproofing.

It was time to give the North Face jacket and the Columbia pants some attention. I washed my ski pants and jacket in the wash with Woolite. I then used the TX Direct waterproofing. I followed the directions given by the representative from Sierra Trading Post on YouTube. Well, it really did the job on my ski garments. When I tested my jacket and pants for repellency it was like water off a duck's back. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to prolong the life of their snow garments!

Applied product to 5 waterproof shell jackets to revitalize repellency. It worked on Gore-Tex and OmniProof labelled clothing. Takes a little time with a side loading washer but worth it. Used Tech wash on all jackets before running them through with Wash-in TX.

The comments apply to the combination of Nikwax wash and waterproofing which are sparate purchases as the products were used in sequence without drying the garments. I have a front loading washer and followed the directions using the amounts specified on the bottle. This is way too much! The wash cycle was a solid volume of foam. You could not even hear or see the clothes sloshing around. Next batch I cut back the amount by at least half and doubled the amount of garments specified. The water proofing results are indistinguishable. Once waterlogged my rain gear now beads water. I have not tested the garments in actual field conditions in a deluge. It was easy and worth it to get renewed performance in well used gear.
