Nikwax Wash-In TX. Direct Waterproofing - 10 fl.oz.

Not as good as a factory proofing but close

I bought the Nixwax Wash-In TX at the same time I bought Nixwax Tech Wash. The Tech Wash came with instructions, but the Wash-In TX did not. I found Wash-In TX instructions online which said to use 2 capfuls per garment. The instructions for the Wash-in TX are therefore different from Tech Wash. The Wash-In TX, which I used immediately after I washed the garments in Tech Wash, did restore waterproofing, and water on the sides of my washing machine started to bead up after I used it!

I tested with North Face Hyvent DT rain jackets. It works. I am not sure how long waterproofness will last yet.

The product is easy to use and I am sure it will help. I only gave it 4 stars becuase "proof is in the pudding" and I will just have to wait and see regarding the duration of the waterproofness of my jacket. There is a definately a stinky smell when the product is put into your washing machine.

This is an excellent product when used in conjunction with Nikwax's Tech Wash. Before using, you need to get the garment truly clean as it is stains and such, by wicking water through the garment, that degrade its water repellency. This does make the fabric water proof, but I did experience a small loss in breathability. This is not a huge issue for me, and I don't even know if the loss is temporary or permanent. Pit zips are a mitigating factor.

As others have noted, this is not a water-proofing product, per se. However, if you have a modern water-proof, breathable fabric, this will restore much of its original quality. It is residue on the garment, whether from stains or detergent, that degrade its ability to repel water. Such things will wick water through the fabric. This cleans away everything and leaves nothing.
