Nikwax products are in general very good for your expensive 1st world gear. The wool wash is great on newer merino stuff and older traditional wool. I have a couple of old Scottish sweaters that were really abrasive and Wool Wash smoothed it out and softened after a few washes. It's the only way y... Read More

    • Answer I wash mine in Nikwax wool wash. Just follow the instructions on the Nikwax container. I always get great results. It will extent the life of your wool and leave then so soft. If you have any more questions you can call customer service. The 1-800 number is on the Nikwax bottle.

    • Answer Sweaters get soaked in Nikwax, in my final rinse I add a spot of hair conditioner (advice from on NPR interview). Dry on a rack. They come out beautiful.
Jackets and coats go to a cleaners.

    • Answer I washed a cashmere sweater by hand one time and regretted it. It just wasn't the same.

However, with the same sweater, I washed it again, only this time I used Nikwax Wool Wash. I had nothing to lose. I swear the sweater has been rejuvenated. I even washed it in the machine on delicate. I air-fluffed it with no heat and laid it out to dry. I normally wouldn't recommend washing a cashmere sweater, but I did see how Nikwax rejuvenated the sweater I previously washed and ruined in another well-known American wool wash.

  • Question “Does this product have to be rinsed out of wool clothing?”
Asked on 10/31/2011 12:00:00 AM by Jacque from Unknown
    • Answer No, though some people do rinse it after washing if they don't like the smell. Personally I think fully rinsing it out cancels a lot of the softening effect.

  • Question “Is this product good for cleaning/maintaining wool caps?”
Asked on 9/27/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Unknown
    • Answer It depends on what kind of wool or the wool-content of your cap. The product is for the following wool types: "merino wool, wool socks and wool base layers". If your cap is 100% wool I would say yes, this product is made to work on it too.

    • Answer If your cap is wool I would say yes, Nikwax Wool Wash would work on it too.

    • Answer I use it for all of my wool and wool blends - base layers, socks, sweaters and outerwear. Gentle cycle or hand wash; lay flat or hang dry is how I wash my caps.
