5.0 out of 5 stars. great boots and a great deal!

These aren't the top-of -the-line hand-made boots that one can get from Nocona, but they are a great buy. My last pair of Nocona's are over 30 years old, it would cost more to get them re-soled than it cost to replace them with this work-horse boot offered at the Sierra Trading Post. Unlike the leather sole and stacked leather heel on the high-end boots, the Competitor has a molded synthetic material, probably last forever and not so slippery. The leather upper is very good quality and the shank is very comfortable. Previous reviewer found fault with the fit, complaining that her heel slipped in the boot, this is how cowboy boots are supposed to fit. Nocona has some good information on their site about how cowboy boots are supposed to fit. I bought these to wear to work, they're very comfortable I can wear them all day. Made in China, not Texas. Only thing a little odd is that they are loose across the instep. This doesn't influence the fit or comfort, just the look.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Are Shoes All Just Getting Bigger??
Verified Buyer Reviewed by The Petite Pear from Virginia on Saturday, July 11, 2015
I wear a women's 5, but these size 5 boots were swimming on me - at least a half-size to one size too large. I know the heel should slip a bit but the instep area was also much too roomy, and I have high insteps!!

I have a very hard time finding adult women's shoes in a size 5 -- many manufacturers just don't make them, and many retailers won't carry the few women's 5s that are out there. STP has become my #1 go-to place to look for shoes and boots (love you, STP!), but I am getting frustrated with manufacturers who seem to be making shoes larger, and it's not my imagination... shoe sizing has become nearly as inconsistent as clothing sizing... and almost no one makes nice adult shoes in size 4. FML.

I ordered these in the sable to replace a pair of harness boots I had that were falling apart. I couldn't be more pleased. The tag says they were made by Justin, which I didn't know. I find Justin's tend to run a little strange (narrower in the toe and looser in the heel.) I had sized down anyway though because they didn't have my normal size so I it worked out fine. They are soft, the stitching is beautiful, and appear to be of good quality. The price couldn't be beat. Very happy with my purchase.

About Nocona

Back in 1920's, when most women were either dancing the night away or hard at work tending hearth and home, Miss Enid Justin was busy starting a company called Nocona boots. Having worked by her father's side since the age of twelve and learning the fine art of boot-making, she was in a good position to do so. Wildcatters liked the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail in this boots - qualities that soon made Nocona the boot of choice for hardworking western men and women. Today, Nocona boots are still made tough enough for cattle drives and handsome enough for the dance floor. Whether you're an urban cowboy, rodeo queen, or working the wide open range, let Nocona boots and belts bring a little piece of the old West to any outfit.
