    These are great affordable reels for spey rods or heavy single hand rods. The drag is powerful, though with just a slight stick on startup. If you're gonna use this reel with a spey rod/line, make sure you use gel spun line for backing rather than dacron for 8wt lines and up. This way you can still get 150-200yds of backing on there, with dacron it'll be about 100yds (enough for steelhead, but not for salmon in my book.

    I have used this model reel for 5+ years chum salmon fishing. It has handled 100's of fish from 10 to 25 lbs. The drag has NEVER faltered. Remains silky smooth. Only fault is that the star handled for the drag setting has become hard to turn when adjusting drag BUT THIS HAS NOT AFFECTED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE DRAG. Huge line capacity.
