“These are great affordable reels for spey rods or heavy single hand rods. The drag is powerful, though with just a slight stick on startup. If you're gonna use this reel with a spey rod/line, make sure you use gel spun line for backing rather than dacron for 8wt lines and up. This way you can still get 150-200yds of backing on there, with dacron it'll be about 100yds (enough for steelhead, but not for salmon in my book.”
