They are very cushiony but they do have a high arch. I have a high arch but these are even a little high for me. I have worn them quite a bit and the arch seems to be forming to my foot so it doesn't feel as weird as when I first bought them. I usually wear a size 8 1/2 but I ordered a 9 and they seem to fit just right. I'm not sure that I like the lacing system. A tie shoe may have been easier to use. All in all a very comfortable shoe and have become my favorite shoe for long exercise walks.
