They would work ok over a one-piece swimsuit or bikini bottom, but not on their own - too revealing without any type of liner. Also, I was very concerned with the "junior" sizing, so I bought a size 11 for for my "mom" sized hips. I usually buy a women's size 6. The size 11 is just right to get past my hips, but way too big on my waist! Since I'll be wearing it over a swimsuit anyways, it might work out ok...
