Like the title says this is a great pack. It is is definitely made with backcounty skiing in mind, made from a nice trough material with water poof zippers on all but one zipper that is located on the back plate of the pack. It also comes with a helmet carrier and lots of extra straps for a few different mounting styles, ** also it does have a way to mount a snowboard on it as well but I am unsure of it is wide enough to do so**. Also the back protector is a nice addition and can add a little peace of mind. Also the side mount I know will fit a 2012 Volkl Mantra which is 132 at the tail (132/98/118)

I bought this pack for general day hiking, wanted something that would carry a hydration pack, along with raingear, lunch, etc. I took delivery and immediately used the pack for some long day hikes in New Mexico (in July).

When you read the instruction manual, you realize this pack was originally designed for winter sports, especially back country skiing. It has a bunch of special features for carrying skis, poles, and snow shovels. They don't really detract from general use, though they do add some weight.

The back of the pack is heavily padded, and there's a stiff plastic internal frame. The waist belt, designed to pass over the top of your hips, is quite wide, and is fastened by a large velcro closure, reinforced by an adjustable buckle. The shoulder straps are also well padded, and there's a sternum strap that provides several inches of adjustment.

Bottom line is a suspension system that allows you to transfer virtually all of the weight to your hips, similar to larger back packs. I have a very long torso, and had no trouble adjusting the pack to my body. While not a huge deal for a pack this small, I did appreciate being able to keep the weight of a 1.5 litre hyrdation pack off my shoulders.

Workmanship is outstanding. The zippers appear nearly waterproof (though I didn't test them much), and the construction is appropriately rugged.

Really, the only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the suspension system isn't terribly well ventilated, and the wide waist strap, when snug against your hips, is downright warm. In the heat of NM, I found myself sweating more than I liked. If you intend to use pack in cooler weather, and especially for skiing as designed, this would not be an objection.

Good small day pack. Not perfect, though. Outer panel is too small and too short for a snow shovel (Voile, for example), therefore snow tools have to go into main compartment, which is closest to the wearer's back (thus warmer) and has no drain holes. Not ideal to mingle snow tools with other gear in same main compartment. Sharp ends of ice tools are too close to helmet when it is held in carrying net, with possibility of damage to helmet. Upper bungee straps for ice tools are too short, had to extend them. Ice tools/poles, when fastened to pack, point somewhat sideways, not straight up. Lower ski carry strap is 150 mm wide as stated in product description, but don't expect to actually fit ski tails that are 150 mm wide (if there are such) - 125 mm is stretching it. Hip belt is closed first with Velcro, then a small buckle secures that. For someone with 32 inch waist, small buckle adjustment is minimised-out, can't be made shorter. Other than that, very good quality, carries very well - overall pleased with the purchase.

I had to return this pack because it was too extreme for my taste. I was going to use this pack for day hikes, skiing, and a bit of everyday wear; however, this pack is set-up for skiing and would be excellent for those backcountry skiing or throwing skins on for their morning. Not an average pack.
