  • Outbound 45°F Microlite Sleeping Bag - Rectangular, Synthetic
By MustangVerified Purchaser from Minneapolis on 05/15/2009
    Pros:
Light Weight, Rectangular shape, Small packed size, True to temp rating
    Best Uses:
    Car Camping, Summer camping
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I slept out under the stars in this bag when the temp dropped to 40 degrees. I wasn't cold but I wasn't warm either. I'd think a sheet bag (liner) would allow one to be comfortable even at that temp.

great backpack for day trips. I use mine for work and it is constantly being picked up, tossed around, etc.. Appears very well constructed from the material to the seams. I esp. like the heavy duty zippers which open and close easily. The lifetime warranty is esp. nice as well. I had an Outbound pack years ago and when it finally wore out, they replaced it with a new one for free. The only thing I wish it had is a small pocket at the top of the pack that is quickly accessible for cell phone, music player, etc. - although the vertical pocket in the front is pretty easy to access.

Our first use of these bags we zipped them together which was easy to do and kept us warm in very windy and rainy conditions at 9,000 ft. However, the zippers are undersized and sometimes snag. Our second use was in colder conditions and the bags were too short (we're about 6')to pull up over our faces. Otherwise, the lining is very cushy and comfy like bags I remember from when I was a kid.

The pack sits pretty well on you, and it's spacious. My only problem is that there's no loops to easily attach a sleeping back on the bottom of the pack, which is where I'd like to put it. Other than that, for the money, it's a good value.

I Needed a replacement tent for the family of 4. I'm a weight weenie across the board, no matter the sport. I was attracted to the low published weight, researched the mfr to double check the product's weight. 11.25 lb. seemed unlikely, but I figured it would be close to that. My wife likes extra space, and the price was too good to pass up. Set this up in about ten minutes on the first attempt, enlisting the services of my 9 & 5yr olds... not bad. Even with a family of 6 this tent would be cavernous. 6 adults easy, 8 if kids are involved. Very sturdy construction, which explains the INACCURATE WEIGHT SPECS: THE TENT WEIGHS 11.25 KILOS, NOT 11.25 POUNDS..not STC's fault, it's labeled wrong on the mfr's box. Canada to US translation issue? Stuffs reasonably small however. 6 int. storage pockets, a large storage loft, and a highly adjustable entry vestibule afford campers lots of options. The rear vestibule (@ secon door) is large enough for several full-sized packs. Fly can be tightened to w/in 1.5" of the ground, 4 1/2" below bathtub line. I haven't tested it in foul weather but it appears to be built to handle it. Guy-lines everywhere. It could use a mesh panel in the ceiling to increase ventilation and keep the temp down. Sunny, 70 deg w/ breeze (love SoCal!) was slightly warm in the tent, even with the fly for shade and all doors wide open. Built more for cooler side of climate rather than the hottest zones. Then again, who wants to spend their daytime hours in the tent? Haven't seen condensation yet, but it's very dry in my area. There's plenty of space between fly and tent. I wish STC had footprints for the tents that they sell...overall HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • Outbound 45°F Microlite Sleeping Bag - Rectangular, Synthetic
By Hiker chickVerified Reviewer from Cambridge, MA on 04/27/2009
    Pros:
Compressible, Easy to pack, Light for a rectangular
    Cons:
    Poor quality stuff sack
    Best Uses:
    Hostels, Lightweight summer
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I have not taken this bag out camping yet, because it's not warm enough here (so I can't speak to the 45F temp rating accuracy). I plan to use it for lightweight overnights in mid-summer. I was impressed with the bag's quality, its compressibility (will easily fit into the bottom of a typical pack), and its light weight for a full rectangular bag with full zip. The interior and exterior fabrics are both nice, and the zipper and top cord seem sturdy. Unlike many light bags, it also easily folds into thirds and rolls up small enough to fit back into its sac, with just one hand! The only disappointment was the compression sac-- I would advise not to even try to compress with it (just use it as a containment bag), because as soon as I tugged on the straps, the seam popped out at the connections. Darn! I'm not going to return the sleeping bag just because of that, but I do plan to get a more sturdy, lightweight compression sac to replace the one that came with it. Actually it rolls up so small on its own, it's not strictly necessary. Otherwise, I'm happy so far, and in fact I made my boyfriend buy the left-hand version to match!
