I was searching for a cold weather hat that was unlike my wool berets and ski hats. I have the additional challenge of shortish, curly hair, so many warm hats just aren't flattering on me. This one has nifty elastic in the back for a secure fit, but is tall enough to NOT mash down my hair. It's bi... Read More

Well made and super cute! I'm sure I'll wear this one non-stop over the winter. Do know that it runs just a bit large, so if you have a small head, it might not fit you. It fits me about perfectly, and I think my head is pretty average sized..

This is a very flattering and comfortable hat. It fits my average sized head perfectly. I get compliments and inquiries about it every time I wear it. I also purchased the cream cotton version which I like as well. This winter houndstooth one has a longer brim and is a bit fuller in the cap. It is also thicker and has a slightly looser and more comfortable fit than the cotton version. Overall the quality and fit of this winter cameo cap is better. It has kept my head warm on a couple of chilly days but I also wore it on a warm sunny day at a music festival and my head stayed comfortable so I think it is okay for warm weather too.

I have long straight hair, this hat would work better on someone with curly hair. The material was not what I expected from the picture- there were some thread ends and other flaws that make the material look old and warn. I am keeping the hat because it made no sense to pay the cost of return shipping considering the price I paid. Good news- in the end, I found that if I flatten down the back of the hat, I can make it work.

The search continues for a winter weight newsboy type cap. I loved the look of this one when I took it out of the box - great style and fabric. But when I put it on my head and looked in the mirror I burst out laughing because it has so much room in the top portion that it poofs out like a big mushroom. I contemplated trying to sew the sides down to the lower edge to keep it 'flatter' but decided to just keep looking for the right one instead.

About Outdoor Research

The concept for Outdoor Research was devised in 1981 when climber Ron Gregg’s planned ascent of Denali was cut short, ending prematurely with his frostbitten partner being airlifted off a glacier. The cause was a faulty pair of gaiters. During his descent, Gregg resolved himself to create better gear, a resolution that soon led him to build the first pair of award-winning Outdoor Research gaiters. The concept was simple: Make outdoor apparel and gear with a clear focus on reliability. In the many years since, this brand has continued to blaze new trails with cutting-edge products that now include Outdoor Research gloves, jackets, backpacks and Outdoor Research hats, all engineered to exceed expectations in the most demanding conditions on the planet.
