Outdoor Research Crystal Jacket - Windstopper® (For Women)

I bought this jacket for my twenty year old daughter who asked for a fleece jacket for Christmas. After reading other reviews I felt like the OR jacket was a good choice for her. We live in the Northwest and it can be windy, rainy and snowy all at the same time. I'm sure she will get years of snowboarding use out of this jacket, not to mention the daily use it will receive.

The XS was too small so swapped it out. She usually wears a Petite small, but in this it looks like a regular small will work. (That's why I marked it as feels small.) Great quality product though, that why we exchanged instead of just returning.

I bought this jacket wanting a fleece, which unfortunately this isn't. I do like the green color. I like the zippers. I like the jacket all around and it fits well.It just shouldn't be in the fleece section, as the fabric is somewhat thick and smooth, not at all fleecey.

Neck and underarm zips were not comfortable and I didn't like the fabric at all so returned it.

I wanted a lighter weight jacket with a lot weather protection. Northwest weather can change within minutes. I have tested the jacket in the wind and cold, but not the rain test yet. I am hoping it can be me outer layer most of the year, from sea to mountains.

This jacket was too short in the front. The length in the back was perfect but the front barely came down to my belt buckle. I'm about 5'5", 107 lbs and I got an XS. I do have a somewhat long torso and I tend to wear low-rise jeans, but it still could have been longer. Also, the neck was stiff and tight, and I have a very thin neck. Most jackets have necks that are way too big for me!! Other than that, it seemed to fit well in the chest and the sleeves. The jacket seemed a little too lightweight for colder temps but it did seem to block some wind. I ended up returning this item.

Nice and warm. Fits a little small so there will not be too much layering but, with an outer shell, it should be warm enough for most conditions. The price is right also.

Pros: comfortable, feels good layered in super cold weather with wind (was in AK for several weeks), longer sleeves keeps my gloves on, good pockets (can keep pocket knife and tissues in breast zip.) Cons: The hem on the bottom of the jacket is glued, not stitched. After washing it twice (as directed), I realized this, as the glue and hem is coming undone, revealing the elastic cord underneath. This is really sad as the quality of the fabric (windstopper) and design of the jacket is great. It sucks that it is assembled rather badly! My husband has a similar (Marmot) jacket...and the bottom hem is stitched. He has had his for years...no issues. I like OR products, but this makes me angry about the quality.

I am extremely happy with this jacket. I've been looking for a cheap, quality, versatile fleece for field work and adventuring, and was having a heck of a time. I gave this one a shot, and am impressed by the simplicity and functionality of this jacket, especially at this price. No flashy logos, color (i got blue) is pretty but not over-the-top. Flattering, form fitting cut (more-so than photo suggests), good for an athlectic figure. If you want more room to layer, order a size up. Inside finish is so soft - feels cozy with a tee shirt. Only con for me - collar is a bit too low to tuck my chin in and is quite narrow when zipped up all the way - keep in mind if you like a roomy collar. Quite wind proof and warm with 2 thin layers in chilly/windy conditions. I love the pit zips!! A perfect way to vent some heat without stripping layers, which really gets old. And they dont create extra bulk in the armpits. Inner wind-proof zipper flap runs the whole length of the zipper - totally awesome. Washes well, and seems like it will last a good long time. Definite keeper!
