Self-inflating mats have a tough time inflating in cold weather but this mat with its inflation/ stuff sack bag does not have this handicap. No chance of introducing water vaper like when you are blowing up that self-inflating mat, this can cause cold spots and bacterial growth inside the mat. Plus this mat is very warm.

My 8 year old son and I used these for a weekend camp out in Michigan. Low temps around 30 degrees and we were quite warm and comfortable. They seem well made and should last a long time with proper care.

The diff between DLX 7 & 9 is the thickness. So if you're a big person or camped in a very cold temp. this pad/mat is for you. Otherwise it just add more weight into your backpack.

I recently became an Assistant Scoutmaster in my son's boy scout troop and started going on the monthly camping trips with them. I have a thinner self inflating pad that just wasn't working with my old bones. This pad is very comfortable. It packs pretty small for as large and thick as it is when inflated. It is somewhat heavy but I can think the extra comfort is worth the weight. Inflating take a few minutes using the stuff sack.
