Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Reviewed by Scott from West Virginia on Tuesday, November 26, 2013I am an a field geologist in the eastern US and spend a lot of time outdoors on and off the job. I generally have a couple of Gore-Tex shells in this class, one for good and one for every day use. My every day use really tests a garment.
This will be my new good jacket as the zipper on my old standby finally wore out after several years of hard use and I had to have a small tear professionally repaired on my former good one, that has now become my every day garment.
The bottom line is I haven't had this shell jacket long, but am quite experienced evaluating garments like this one. So far it looks like a really well designed, well manufactured high end shell garment.
I normally take large and it appears that large would fit, but purchased extra large to accommodate layering, generally at minimum a heavy fleece vest.
Reviewed by WinterSpprtsDude from Minnesota on Tuesday, November 26, 2013A must buy! Extremely durable and also great styling to boot.
Reviewed by kneebuster from Golden, CO on Monday, November 18, 2013I was looking for a versatile waterproof/breathable jacket for all-around use. I want to be able to wear it around town without an insulating layer as well as in the snow with a moderate puffy underneath. I also really wanted a Napleon pocket as I use it regularly. This jacket fits the bill. It is ever so slightly tight through the armpits with my heavier down jacket underneath, not enough to notice after a while. It is lightweight and the side sips are an awesome feature. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, especially given the awesome price through STP.
Reviewed by Eleanor from Wisconsin on Wednesday, November 13, 2013Although I have not thoroughly tested this jacket yet it appears to have all the bells and whistle a jacket of this quality is expected to come with. For sizing I am 5'11" 150 pounds and the small fits great. There is still some room for a base layer underneath and still have great mobility.
Reviewed by Ms. Organic Gardener from Olympia, WA on Saturday, October 5, 2013The Mentor jacket is clearly well designed, to keep you comfy in the elements. The base fabric is sturdy, the darker, heavier fabric will prevent wear from your pack straps. Love the long hem to biceps pit-zips, for keeping cool. Now hey guys don't get mad but I'm a 5'2" female feminine hiker... and love how the jacket covers the butt and wrists...no getting soaked in a PNW rainstorm. This hood size covers your hat easily. There's room for a fleece layer, or whatever, underneath. Thanks to the designers, this jacket could keep you from being flat out miserable if you were out in nasty weather. I tried on OR female rain jackets... like the longer length and reinforcement on the "guys" model. Love the glacier blue color too. Thanks Outdoor Research designers. (one little minus, wish the velcro on the wrists had a bit larger area to grab onto. But that's the only negative, and you can live with it.)
