This keeps my head totally warm in very cold temperatures. I agree with other reviewers that the hat runs small. I normally wear a size small, but went with a medium in this hat and it fits perfectly. Great product at a great price.

Reading the other reviews on how small/tight this runs AND knowing that I DON'T have a big head, I figured I'd order the large to be on the safe side and simply cinch it tight with the cinching straps it comes with. Well, the Large is SNUG on me, and I don't have a lot of hair or thick hair- it was doable but if it had been tighter I would have sent it back- actually, I would prefer it to be bigger, BUT I was going on a snow hike and didn't have time to send it back. if you are a woman with a lot of hair, or just want to be comfortable, I recommend the XL and you can always make it tighter.
It's true, the placement of the chin strap is placed a bit too inward, so that when you clasp it, it is against your throat, even if you're wearing it loose. I plan on having the straps removed and replaced so that they're further out (facing more of the outside) so that it doesn't rest on my neck which is annoying. It is very soft, the blue color I got is nice, and the ear flaps add to the warmth, however if this is all I was wearing outside, I believe I would've been a bit chilly- I had a buff covering my ears which helped, but the ear flaps helped shield my ears from the freezing wind. I would recommend, just order big.

I love this hat, it keeps out the wind and is also very warm. I take our dogs on a 2 mile walk every morning even in the biting cold winters of Indiana. This hat will be perfect for those early freezing mornings. Sometimes with the wind chill it is 25 degrees below. This winter, I am prepared.

It's a warm hat, but it runs small. I have a small head and short hair, but I have a little difficulty fitting into a Medium. However, with the winter we're having in NYC, not taking the time to return it....

I got to test this hat yesterday. We went for a day hike in Yosemite Valley and it was unexpectedly cold-29 at the car. We did some strenuous uphill walking and the hat did not get too hot, which I thought it would. I had the ear flaps up and it is big enough that my ears were still covered and warm. In wind I would put them down. I like having a brim and the brim folds so you can pack it more easily. There are pockets on the side that seem useless to me. As far as looks go (I'm old enough to not care much about that) my husband first said I looked like I was wearing 1/2 a raccoon. (flaps were up) Later he said I looked like a wild animal. His last comment was that really it looked kind of cool. The neighbor kid wanted to touch the fur. I am very pleased with the hat.
