I always take a small bottle of this with me backpacking to wash my hands, face, neck and dishes. I consider this a must have if you do any type of back country food prep or cooking. The 8oz bottle is much too large for backpacking as you probably only need 2oz to wash everything over a quick 2-3 day trip. Buy the 8oz bottle and use it to top off a small 2oz container for your trips.
I used camp soap several years ago on a kayak trip in the Everglades. I can't remember how effective it was. Since it is so inexpensive, I suggest you buy it and, if doesn't work in salt water, save it for a fresh water camp.

Labeling on the container states that yes, the soap works in salt water. I have no way to test the claim
