It's like wearing a silk scarf. They are well made and probably very sturdy but I can't imagine wearing them on a hike. They don't look or feel like something I'd hike in or wear at home. They just don't feel substantial. They look like you're wearing something just to see how lightweight it can be without wearing nothing. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone unless you had to severely restrict the weight you could carry.

They are a rich color, are attractive and comfortable. They are appropriate for the trail or when going out to dinner. Only problems are that the regular length is too long for my 5'5" height and the pockets sit open a bit too much.
