Marching through a blizzard By SapphireSwell from New York, NY on 12/20/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Warm, Waterproof Cons: Doesn't Breathe, Tricky Hood Adjustment Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions, Wet Weather Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The first snowfall landed in New York this weekend, and I knew just which jacket to reach for. The temperature wasn't near extreme, but gusts of wind and persistent snowfall did make stepping outside difficult. While everyone else was in their multiple sweaters under puffy coats or core & shell jackets, I put on a long sleeved shirt and this coat. It was perfect in 15 degree weather with a foot of snow (and climbing) with 30 mph gusts.
The fit on a female:
3XS fits a 5'-5" Female XS (0-2) very well, but be warned, you'll look like a huge marshmallow, albeit a warm one. It hits me just above the knees, which protects my thighs nicely, and with snow boots, minimal leg is left exposed. Arm length is perfect and there is room inside to fit a thick sweater.
One gripe I had was trying to adjust the hood properly. The neck of the coat would have zipped past my lips and above my nose (I even have a long neck), so closing the coat was not an option. the hood sort of flopped around my head when gusts of wind hit me, and at one point it blew off. There is a buckled that you can adjust the depth of the hood, but that was too difficult in the middle of a storm with gloves on. I wound up holding the rim of the hood in place.
Otherwise, this is a lovely coat. It was incredibly toasty, water and wind proof. Also, I love the HUGE pockets. Keys, cellphone, goggles, gloves all fit!
