The jacket is a cross between a hardshell and a softshell - no insulation but very warm and comfortable. The vest is a bit bulky but acceptable as an over vest - keeps the core warm. The hood on the vest is a great feature. The red/black color combo is a bit harsh. Wear the black vest with a more subtle color softshell will yield a better look. better

I am a 40 jacket and usually would wear a medium jacket.
