The vest is well made and of quality materials. It was warm enough for some light hiking and/or walking the dog with a long sleeve shirt underneath (40 degree weather). It will also make a good layering piece when the weather gets into the 30's and lower this winter. The color red is also a rich color - a real red, not "orangey" at all.
