By Matt from Australia on 09/24/2009 Pros: Breathable, Great Features, Waterproof, Wind Resistant Cons: Hood doesn't stow, Too many pockets Describe Yourself: Advanced Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm tall (6'4") and slim and ordered XL. The sleeve length is great, good cuffs. The jacket is cut well, but still enough room to fit an entire lined soft shell underneath- plenty of room for layering. The powder skirt isn't adjustable and is too big for me, but this is normal due to my size- easy modification. There are press studs for interface (I guess with Bonfire pants). The Goretex material is very flexible and the jacket packs down very tight. Olive color looks darker and better than in the picture, the pattern is not as prominent as it looks in the picture.
The hood doesn't stow! They should've left off the army-style shoulder straps and put in a press stud to secure the hood when you're not using it. It is big enough to wear over a helmet, and has velcro straps to secure it to your goggle strap. Very cool. This jacket also comes with a free Transworld subscription on the tag (for those in the US).
The zips are good quality. The arm vents are huge and zip almost all the way along the arm. The pockets are good too, lots of space. While I wish there were only a couple of external pockets, the main ones have a side entry separate section for hand warming. Inside the main pockets are the toggles for the waist of the jacket. One of the best things about this jacket isn't even mentioned in the description- there is a clip off balaclava that hides in pocket behind your neck! Very warm, great feature.
I'm really nitpicking and hope my review doesn't sound too negative, this is a fantastic jacket, but not quite perfect. If there was a 4.5 star rating, I'd give it. If you always use a hood, you'll probably rate it as 5.0.
