These are real rugged, big chunky soles, metal eyelets, waterproof, insulated... the only "breaking in" was the tongue. as with most mids (i assume) the tongue on my left boot was rubbing my lower shin wrong but it soon formed to my flex. i recomended these to all my "west" friends and always sing the praises for sierra tradingpost

After coming across these, I realized they would be perfect for my needs--durable, waterproof, supportive--but I was a little leary since they were in mens sizes. I simply went to Sierra Trading Posts sizing guide, which was a big help, and bought the boots. I can't tell you how glad I am that I did. They are great--lots of support, warm, and incredibly comfortable! In fact, I don't think I ever have had boots this comfortable. They are very soft and cushioned everywhere you want them to be. I didn't have to break them in, either. Hiked in them straight out of the box. They handled creek crossings well--no wet socks. They are fairly lightweight and have great tread on the bottom. Since these have Thinsulate insulation, I'll also be using them when I shovel my driveway this winter!

I was not disappointed, this feels like a fat spongy slipper, although i think these will be a bit too snug for their intended purpose(very long Scottish summer hike) Will definitely get great were from this product. Right boot squeaks a little though.
