They were comfortable and I only got one blister (on a day that I walked about 24 miles). The boots repelled water well but after some hours in rain/snow/puddles there were times that my feet got damp. I wore these boots probably 500 miles in training for my walk and have probably worn them about 200 miles since my walk and the soles are wearing down. I'm probably ready for a new pair. I wore them with green superfeet insoles and smartwool adrenaline hiking socks. For me these boots were perfect. As to the sizing...my shoe size generally fluctuates between an 8 1/2 and 9 and I wore these in a 9 so you may need to go up a half size. After a month of 18 mile days on varied surfaces, my feet remained comfortable in these boots.

The fit is snug, I had to return it for a half size larger. Can't vouch for the waterproof gore-tex as it has yet to be worn in the rain or to go through puddles.
