I didn't have to break them in at all, they were very comfortable on even the first wear and have terrific ankle support which I definitely appreciate. The grip is good, and although it doesn't have significant arch support, orthotics are easy enough to slip in. I haven't tested the waterproof functionality yet but I already know I am happy with these shoes.
