Can hold lots of gear. I've never tried a dry bag with the inflatable valve, but it comes in handy -- from getting the unwanted air out, to inflating air in after you've already sealed it off.
Just got back from a kayaking expedition, and it was perfect for putting our tent, pads, and a few other items. The only way you'll maximize all 50L of storage is if you pack it perfectly tight. So don't let that 50L tag fool ya -- as far as functional volume, I'd probably say it's closer to 40L.
Still, I'm not sure you'd want to go backpacking with this bag. Not exactly sure how you'd manage size (just look at the dimensions!). Backpackers you should look at the 5, 15, and 25L bags.
I bought one of each of the Pacific Outdoor Equip dry bags, and the variety of sizes come in very handy. After a week kayaking (and the loading/unloading that comes with it), very little (if any) signs they were even used at all.
Highly recommended! I might just buy a couple more of the smaller ones!
