Comfortable Shoes for Serious Hiking By EL from Boston, MA on 08/21/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have these Columbia Beartooths in the wide version, which are just wide enough for my wide feet (it's so hard to find shoes wider than the medium "D" width). The outer soles are aggressive and thick, with 3 kinds of material (some soft, some harder) for very good grip. There is more than adequate shock absorption in these shoes - the nubuck leather with breatheable padded mesh upper conforms to my feet and provides cushioing for hiking. the ankle support is OK, not great. Overall, a good and lightweight shoes for easy hikes and everyday wear.
