More "small" than "medium". Was also worried about all the exposed seams inside. But it is very lightweight and stretchy, so doesn't feel too binding. Was absolutely perfect for a cool weather (32F) trail run - kept ears warm, wicked sweat, didn't slide all over, and comfortable enough I could barely tell it was on.

Should be pretty comfy during XC season as well. Light weight makes it stow away in pockets (dry bags) real easy.
