Well Built but Pricey Upgrades Necessary By Bird Dog Guy from Allentown, PA on 01/08/2009 Pros: Durable, Easy to use, Well constructed Cons: Heavy, Laborious to Adjust, Large Best Uses: Bird Hunting, Recreational Shooting, Shotgun proficency Describe Yourself: Experienced Hunter Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: There is no doubt about it, the trap throwers on this product are very nice quality and easy to use! The 3/4 cocked is a great innovation and eliminates the long after-throw wobble and shaking that follows the old traps, while also making the next shot quick and easy to load. The frame and traps bolt together easily and are rugged and heavy, as you'd expect.
However, I would not say the frame comes apart so easily that you want to be assembling in the field. It is all bolted, no quick releases or collapsing. I have not tried to drive with this in my hitch and they do not say if that is approved, but unless you have a pick-up or VERY large SUV, that will be a necessity for most people.
Perhaps the biggest problem is that with all this throwing power and ease at your fingertips, the device's usability is severely limited by the tedious adjustment of the trap direction which uses several bolts. In order to adjust the direction three bolts are used on a three-way hinge, so you need to use a wrench make a new throw while the shooter stands around. You wind up throwing the same pattern over and over.
If you are going to throw just a handful of clays, you are better off with a hand thrower which will give you variety, costs a few bucks and fits under your drivers seat.
Of course, for a long day of clays, you will need a trap like this, but I agree with the previous reviewer that it really requires the addition of the "wobble kit" which appear to be upgraded three way joints that are moved by hand. This amounts to about a $60 to $70 upgrade for two joints. These really should come standard on a thrower of this price!
By Sportsman from Indiana on 08/12/2008 Pros: Durable, Improves Performance, Safe, Simple to operate, Well Made, Works Well Best Uses: Offers many types of shot, Shooting with family Describe Yourself: Experienced Hunter Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great product, I have been shooting for many years and really enjoy the diversity this product provides. It makes you want to get out and shoot more. It is very easy to reset the trap arm and the release system is a good safe design. Two things to keep in mind, 1) it takes up some space when in storage and 2) one of the biggest advantages of this device is that you can shoot many diffrent types of shots (just like sporting clays). However adjusting it is not something that can be done really quick. I recomend purchasing 2 of the wobbler kits. It makes the shooting much more fun and productive. A really good, safe product, at a great value.
By BIRDDAWGGER from MISSOURI on 03/01/2008 Pros: Improves Performance, Works Well Cons: Awkward to move and carry, Heavy Describe Yourself: Experienced Hunter Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Needs better instructions for assembly-too much generic info-not enough about my specific product.
Lucky I am adept at figuring out puzzles. Seems to be very durable, and mechanically works very well. Very bulky and awkward to handle and move around. All in all very satisfied in this product. Am teaching my grandchildren to shot with this.
