The ionsole is surprisingly and nicely padded - something you do not often find in hard-soled shoes. They are a little stiff, but that is to be expected with this style of shoe. They are also a little tight and narrow, so definitely order a half size up from this manufacturer, and consider a wider shoe if you are at all concerned.
