By Rivermann from New Milford Illinois on 02/19/2009 Best Uses: A blanket for the dog Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This coat is a joke. The zipper is on the wrong side, the down if any at all has no loft. It is at least 2 sizes to small. I am 6-2 210lbs. with an athletic build. The XL fits more like a medium. Save your money or buy a real parka from The North Face.
Fine for the city - light for real cold By Winter Fan from Toronto, ON on 01/21/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable Cons: Not Enough Pockets or Features Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Purchased the Eider Smooth II in January'09 to stay warm this winter in Toronto. The jacket fits slightly small. I typically buy Medium, but found Large fit just right. Sleeves could be just a bit longer. For the price, lacks features. No snowskirt to cut down drafts. Faux fur does look cheap and not sure how functional to keep the cold out. Warm enough for the city (house to car\bus to work\school), and not very bulky with 700 down fill. May not be warm enough for extreme cold conditions. Also not gore-tex. Uses Eider Defender technology. Cannot see seam seals. May be under down layer. For the price, a great jacket $. For more colder conditions (and price is less of a concern), maybe look at the North Face McMurdo $$, and extreme conditions, go with Canada Goose $$$
By paco from montreal, quebec on 01/16/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stylish Describe Yourself: Outdoor Professional Chest Size: Feels true to size Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: This parka comes with an uninsulated hood. Also, I don't think it would have been quite warm enough for conditions in Quebec, really it could use more down. Still, I would've kept it but that hood is a deal-killer for me. Normally, Eider make excellent products.
