Great for brushy or rocky trails By pikabike from The crazy foothills, CO on 06/01/2009 Pros: Abrasion-resistant, Absorbs Shock, Closely trimmed outsole, Comfortable, Good Traction, Lightweight Best Uses: Dirt roads and jeep trail, Off-trail hiking, Trails Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've owned 2 pairs of these shoes and am looking for my 3rd set now. There are very few other lightweight hiking shoes that do NOT have fabric uppers, which I find too delicate. Any non-leather uppers in my shoes have always been easily destroyed even with occasional brushy, thorny, or rocky hikes. It's full leather (or synthetic leather) for me; nothing else lasts. And I LOVE the rubber guard around the front half of the shoes.
My daily hikes from home are on steep dirt roads, and trail hikes are on all kinds of surfaces. These shoes have served me extremely well. I only wish the outsoles would last longer...but then they would have to be a harder rubber, which means the traction would not be as good.
A bonus is that when I want to ride my mtn bike and wear "regular shoes" instead of cleated ones, these shoes are trim enough and stiff-soled enough for that purpose. They fit into toeclips just fine.
