That it the only possible explanation for the fit. I can't imagine the manufacturer would deliberately design them to fit like that - they are fine about the waist, hips and legs, but the crotch length (back waist to front waist through the crotch) is way too small, resulting in the seam sitting between your posterior cheeks and feeling like you are wearing thong underwear. The hem arrangement, with a drawcord, is also stupid, and probably useless.

The pants are true to Cloudveil quality in all other areas, but quite uncomfortable in the rise. Will be returning them.
